Miles Aaron Edgley

Wow, what a day!!

Wednesday I taught and did TRX, aqua aerobics, had a couple clients, went to swim class and was surfing behind our friend's boat. No signs of anything. We joked on the boat that I better not go into labor the next day since Aaron and Cam had their first basketball game of the season and I usually go into labor when Aaron is playing in a big game.

Thursday morning I woke up for the hundredth time to pee around 2 am, and when I laid down, had a pretty strong contraction. I'd been having similar type of ones, but as the morning progressed they were strong enough that I'd have to breathe through them and would whimper a little. They weren't regular or very close together, so I didn't think too much about them. Aaron got up early to head to basketball at 5:15 am, and by then I figured something may be going on, but didn't want to alert Aaron if it was nothing. I had 4 clients to train and had my check up appointment right after so I figured I'd make it through until the doctor could tell me how progressed I was.

By the time I left to train, I let Aaron know to have his phone close by him- that something may be happening. I went in and trained my clients and again was having these super strong contractions that would make me breathless during my sessions, but not close enough together to make me nervous. After training, I grabbed Gavin from child care and we headed over to my appointment.

My midwife was double booked for the day and it took until noon to get in to see her. I told her I thought I was having some labor contractions but they weren't regular enough to send me on high alert. She checked me and said, "You need to walk over to the hospital right now." She told me I was a 6 1/2, pushing a 7 and 100% effaced- ready to have a baby today. I looked at her shocked- I have Gavin, Aaron's at work, I'm in my work, workout clothes, I don't have any of my things.. I asked her if I had time to run home first, she was nervous for me to do so, but I had Gavin and he wasn't delivering my baby so I called Aaron. We agreed to meet at home real fast and head back over. Luckily, Josie, who was set to watch Gavin when I went into labor, was driving by close by. We met at the grocery store and I passed off Gavin. I called the school on the way home, asking Jaylen to go home with Lily.

Aaron and I met at home and threw our things together and dropped off some overnight bags for the boys. Thank goodness for good friends who were happy to step in and keep the boys. (Jaylen stayed with Lily's family and Gavin stayed with Cam and Josie's family- of which have ALL girls- ha!) We made it over to the hospital and got all checked in.

I couldn't believe once we were in our room and I stood there in my gown, looking at this bed. Oh my goodness- are we really here right now?!
They came in and checked me and I was at a 7 and 100% effaced. My contractions still weren't predictably frequent but when they hit, man they hurt! The anesthesiologist came in about an hour later and gave me an epidural. Oh, I love those things. Within 30 minutes, I couldn't feel the contractions. I could still move and feel my legs, and I could eventually feel the contraction happening, just without all the pain. It was a pretty amazing job he did with it.

My midwife, Katie, came in and while checking me, my water broke. They rolled me on my side and put this funny stability ball thing between my legs and we waited till I was completely dilated and my midwife was back in the hospital. My nurse, Michon, was 1 month away from being due with her 3rd boy. She was so awesome. We teased about how hungry I was and that this baby needed to come before dinner. She was off shift at 6, so we were going to make it happen before she left for the day. Shortly after 5, my midwife came in, checked me and said, "Let's have this baby!" They got the bed all broke apart and ready for delivery. Once I was up in the stirrups she told me when I felt a contraction coming on to push. 1 1/2 pushes later he was out! It was so simple, I couldn't believe it! I didn't tear and everything had gone smoothly! What a RELIEF!!

Freshly out! Aaron took pictures of Miles making his exit so I could see them later. Looking through them is just amazing that my body could do that! Such a miracle!

I'm sorry if this is too much, but this is just too cool. The placenta. My midwife held it up and showed me how the baby was in there and everything. So amazing!

Checking the baby out
Cute, little perfect boy! 6 lbs 13 oz, 20" long at 5:28 pm.
Proud Daddy. So cute to see such a tiny baby in Aaron's arms.

Oh, so glad he's here and made it so safely!
We got moved up to the post delivery floor and got settled in. I ordered in room service and was feeling pretty good. Aaron had plenty of time to make it to his basketball game, so I sent him off to play and my sister-in-law and 3 nieces came by to visit while he was gone. It was fun to see them and chat.

Aaron got back around 11 pm from winning his game and it was nice to have him with me that night. Poor guy is hilarious looking on that tiny couch and didn't sleep well, but it's always comforting to have him close by.

The food was AMAZING. It was room service and could be ordered whenever I wanted. Needless to say, I did not go hungry. They had so many options and good, healthy things along with an Oreo shake that was so good!

Oh, he's so cute! The nursery took him later that night and somehow information got confused and they ended up keeping him for the whole night and I asked to have him brought back in after 7 am. I'm actually glad it worked out that way, because I got some good sleep.

After school, both Jaylen and Gavin got brought to the hospital at around 3 pm. Gavin told Josie on the way in that he didn't want to hold Miles because, "He doesn't like holding people." Jaylen was super sweet holding Miles and asked me so sweetly if everything had gone okay for me. He's got such a sweet heart.

Lily and him got all snuggled up with Aaron's blanket on the chair in the room

Gavin had fun watching smiles hiccup and squirm. He loves when he makes funny faces and squawks and squeaks.

Aaron took the boys home and cleaned up the house and stocked us up with some groceries. I felt like it was best for me to stay at the hospital so I wouldn't be tempted to over do it at home, take advantage of room service, the nursery, pain meds and get another night of good sleep. I'm glad I did. I got some good sleep Friday night and it forced me to stay down and recover.

Jared stopped by with CJ and Addie. It was fun to catch up with them and Addie walked the halls with me.

Miles looks a lot like our other boys! Jaylen is top left, Gavin is top right and Miles is on the bottom. We think he looks most similar to Gavin.

Silly Gavin figured out what the bulb syringe is for!

Our hospital stay was such a great experience. Great nurses, great care, they didn't pester me through the night. It was such a breath of fresh air to have such a smooth day!

Cute boys sleeping at home
Aaron and the boys came to get me Saturday morning around 9 am before Jaylen's flag football game. On our way out the door, I asked the nurse to take a picture and grabbed Gavin since he was the closet to me. The nurse was like, "I told you not to pick up anything heavy and he's definitely too heavy." She wasn't too happy with me, but I didn't even think twice about it!
It was so nice to be out from the hospital and outside watching Jaylen. Miles slept in the car during the game and I was able to watch Jaylen up and down the field. I got asked a few times when I was due, and I didn't mind at all. I'm SO relieved to NOT be pregnant anymore, I'll gladly lug this baby belly around instead of being so uncomfortable!

We had a birthday party for Miles! The boys each had a candle for how many days old he is!

2 days old

3 days old
He's such a good baby. I'm really enjoying loving on him and being with him. He wakes up every couple hours at night, but it hasn't really bothered me yet. I feel like I'm sleeping way better than when I was up constantly to pee and was SO uncomfortable getting in and out of bed. Now, I have an adorable baby to see and I'm comfortable when I am asleep now. When my milk came in, it was painful, but after a day, I feel much better regulated and I'm not painfully full anymore. He does a great job of going right back to sleep after he eats and I feel like I have a good routine down with him that I learned with Gavin. (Feed, burp, diaper change, feed other side, lay down, go to sleep). He's so quiet and sweet!

The boys seem to be doing fine with him. Jaylen gets really up tight and runs outside if Miles starts to cry at all. His tender heart can't handle the crying or whimpering. Gavin doesn't seem to mind Miles, yet he's not soft or careful at all, so we have to keep our eye on him. He still doesn't like to "hold people" and is uncomfortable getting too close, unless it's to poke him or pat him on the head. He does like to listen to his cute noises and watch his facial expressions. Both boys have been helpful with retrieving diapers and throwing diapers away. They think it is SO funny how Miles drinks my milk. They can't believe that he uses my "nibbles" to get food. They giggle like little girls. I was nervous what they were going to be saying to people at church about new baby Miles since they were so giddy about the whole nursing situation.

I can't believe he's here! He came on the day that my 20 week ultrasound said he would be due on. I'm so glad he came 10 days early from my due date. I was miserable. I couldn't be happier with how the day went! I feel so blessed to have all my sweet boys together under one roof now! It's been good being home. I've had a few projects to keep my sanity and had some good neighbors to get out on walks with. Our ward has been great to supply a few meals & offer to watch Gavin. I feel so blessed to have some amazing friends and clients that have visited, bringing cute clothes, a swing, given me their old baby items, and loved and supported us with their calls and cards. I couldn't have asked for a better experience so far!

I look at Miles and can't believe what a miracle he is. Everything about him is wonderful and miraculous. How he was just in my belly days ago and now growing from my "special mommy milk" (as the boys call it). He's so tiny, precious and sweet. We love having our sweet baby Miles Aaron in our family.
Aaron and the boys made this little nook of pictures for me and attached a little Ipad for me to watch a show while I nursed. So sweet of Aaron!

This picture gives the reaction to baby Miles really well. Gavin is slowly warming up to him and Jaylen loves to hold him and have him around.
Jaylen said yesterday, "Mom, baby Miles isn't boring afterall. I couldn't dream of anything better than Miles!" Aaron and I looked at each other, completely heart melted.
Oh sleep, such a precious commodity around here!
