SATURDAYS OFF!!
So Aaron has been working at a pest control company spraying while being in school, which he worked on Saturdays to help make up for days he was in school. Well, finally, he stopped working Saturdays, so we're free to explore and have fun together on our weekends. I am extremely thankful to Aaron for putting in so much hard work to support our family and pay for his Masters without any loans. I am really excited though to have our new found freedom to play. We spent a Saturday at the Zoo, Biopark, and aquarium. Jaylen had sooo much fun, and we had fun watching our sweet little boy taking in the world around him..

The train! Jaylen's fav

Jaylen's highlight of the day: THE TRAIN! He loved it!

Jaylen got soaked in the splash pad. Watching him run around play in the water, I felt tears in my eyes as I really thought about how much I enjoy being a mom. It hasn't been an easy adjustment for me by any means, but I have come to really, really love being a mom. Jaylen makes that easy to do, of course. He is such a doll and so full of curiosity and happiness. I'm thankful for random moments like this that remind me why its so worth it.

He loved the play area. He can go anywhere and it just blows me away what a big boy he's getting to be!

Just an update on employment:
Aaron has full time hours at Southwest Sports Institute starting this week! We're super excited. He loves being the director of operations over there! Next step, is to be switched over to salary. He no longer has to work at pest control, which he was beginning to strongly dislike. Yay! A couple other jobs are on the horizon- so the next few months will be exciting for us!
I'm still working at Sports and Wellness as a personal trainer and teaching a TRX suspension training class. Still loving it and enjoying my clients. I really love what I do!

Sante Fe!
We had a fun trip up to Sante Fe, New Mexico. Its the state capital of New Mexico. We've heard its like Albuquerque's Old Town, just on a way bigger scale- which was exactly true (just way, way more expensive!). It was really fun. It is really historic and has a lot of neat shops and things to see. Val Khmer, Julia Roberts and others have residences in the area. It was fun to cross of the list and experience!
Beautiful flower garden!
On the plaza of Sante Fe
Jaylen was freaked out about this donkey at first. He swore it was trying to bite him..
A big Catholic cathedral in Sante Fe. I was pretty blown away by how ornate it was. I can't remember a time being in such a huge, fancy church. It was interesting to look around..
I was daring Aaron to go into the "confessions" room, but he wimped out. :)

2 1/2 years old... or 30 months.. but who's counting?!
JAYLEN!
I have been thinking about our sweet boy turning 2 1/2 next week. Crazy how kids grow up so fast. Here's his current likes:
Singing
Smoothies
Vacuums
Sitting very close or on me
Saying, "Maybe tonight" when we ask him to do something
His mom- he is a mommy's boy to the max, especially since I was gone for my Grandma's funeral.
Aaron's scooter
His bike- and refuses to use the pedals so he has holes in the toes of his shoes
Books- he will bring book after book morning and night to have them read to him.
His favorites: Snow book, Barn Yard, Dumpers and Diggers, Spooky Old Tree, Are you my Mother?
Hes getting a lot more into the longer, "beginning reader" books. His attention span is getting better and he can "read" us some of the books pretty well. In the Snow book, which is his absolute favorite, he got the word appetite. So whenever he's hungry he says, "I have a BIG appetite!" Its really adorable.
Tonight on the way to the gym, Aaron and I told Jaylen he was our sweetie. Jaylen quickly replied, "NO!" and started singing, "I am a Child of God." It was rather funny. We explained he can still be a child of God and our sweetie. Love this little guy.
Jaylen saw Aaron turn off to go to work on his scooter this morning and Jaylen said in the back of the car, "Daddy's awesome. I love him." It was such a sweet thing to say. Love those 2 boys.
Well, according to old wives' tales I've heard you take boys height at 2 1/2 and double it, and that's their expected adult height. Who knows if its true, but I measured his height on his Lobo poster, and he is 3 feet 2 inches. We measured him a month ago and he was an inch shorter, so he's growing quickly. So I guess we'll see if he turns out to be 6'4".
Speaking of, 7 poopy diapers today!!! Proof of how much this kid eats. Its incredible.
I'll have to get some of his recent pictures up. He's such a cute kid and we're so glad he's ours!

Food on the brain
Jaylen is SO into singing right now. We put our CD player in his room a few months ago, and Jaylen has to have his Children's Songbook songs playing at all times when we're at home. He falls asleep listening to songs and Scripture Scouts. I really enjoy the uplifting background music.
The thing that has really cracked me up lately is how Jaylen will sing some of his favorite songs, and it always involves food. For example:
My favorite is the 2nd verse for I Am a Child of God. He sings, "I am a child of God, and so my needs are grapes!" I love it. I crack up everytime.
He loves Popcorn Popping. He sings, "Popcorn popping from the apricot treats."
When he sings his ABCs, he says at the end, "Next time won't you sing some meat."
Jaylen's favorite songs to sing:
I Am a Child of God
Popcorn popping
Once there was a snowman
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes
Itsy Bitsy Spider
Tick Tock
ABCs
Monkey's jumping on the bed
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Happy Birthday song
Listening to our sweet, innocent, little boy sing is one of the most heart melting things yet. We love it and are glad he's into it!

Crazy Naps
This kid takes crazy naps. He doesn't go to sleep easily and plays till the very last second. Here's the past couple naps..

I couldn't open the door very well, and realized he was asleep behind it.

He was so cute all zonked out, snoring, hugging his bear. What a silly lil boy!

Cochiti Olympic Triathlon!
What an adventure filled weekend! Aaron was asked to work the SWSI table for the Cochiti Triathlon, and I really wanted to run one before the end of the summer, so we spent the weekend camping, swimming and doing a triathlon! Here's some photos of our adventure:
Foil dinners. Can you tell we were hungry when we made them??

Our fantastic, tall tent that Steve and Ellie let us borrow for the weekend...

Swimming on Saturday at the lake. Jaylen loved swimming and took off towards the yellow swim line. He swam all the way there with his vest on (with us going with him, of course).

He loved playing in the sand. He was confused, but quickly enjoyed burying me.

Aaron was doing some fun flips and tricks with him. Jaylen was LOVING it! It was so cute. Jaylen is lucky to have such a fun, playful daddy!

DINNER! Yum, roasted corn and foil dinners!

These were HEAVEN. Wow, so, sooooooooooo good! Definitely the best part of camping.

Making some smores!!

Jaylen loved being out camping! He was a little uptight about the food being hot since it was cooked over flames (he has an extreme fear of hot food, poor guy was probably scarred by me), but quickly enjoyed his food.

Camping that night got a little crazy. First, the only thing that made camping the night before a 7 am race doable, was using an air mattress. Well, it popped as soon as we blew it up. So we weren't prepared to sleep on anything else, so we slept on really hard rocks. It got really windy, rained and the noise was soooo loud, I had a really hard time sleeping. Jaylen actually did really well- got the most sleep out of all of us, and hardly woke up. I could not find a comfortable position, and eventually Jaylen came over to sleep by us. Every position he was in, he had to have a hand or arm on me, which was cute, but made it very hard to sleep. I was getting a little anxious about the lack of sleep before the race, and the thought of a rattlesnake creeping in the open tent door. We made it through the night with minimal sleep, and was happy to get up and get the race going!
Well, here it is! The start of a crazy race, that I loved! It started at 7 am at Cochiti lake, between Sante Fe and Albuquerque. I got there to set up my transition area and was rather worried. Unlike the sprint tris, everyone was rather intense looking, with the wetsuits, goos, and had the craziest warm up routines. I quickly shrugged it off, and just set my sights on finishing and having fun.
Here's a pic with Jaylen and I before I head out. Poor Jaylen didn't seem to be feeling very good in the morning

We're on the right- Aaron's coworker took this one..

Waiting to swim 1 mile in a triangle around the lake! My heart was pumping soooo fast! The swim was tough, but pretty enjoyable. It wasn't as bad as I thought. Waves were frustrating, but it was nice and spread out amongst people. The lake was a beautiful 72 degrees- felt great!

Finally out! Sheesh!

Off on the bike! HOLY MOLY! I borrowed this road bike, bike shorts, and shoe clips from a very NICE friend in our other ward. They were AMAZING. So so much better than my mountain bike- I felt like I was flying. Well, compared to the mountain bike. The bike was LONG and just mentally tough. 25 miles isn't friendly on the behind (or anything else for that matter).

Jaylen playing..

Off on the run! 6.2 miles of pure fun.. (maybe not, but there was Jelly Bellies at the turn around point!)

THE HILL OF DEATH - a straight up hill for boats to dock in the water. Had to bike and run up this baby. A relentless 1 mile climb to the dam.

Running was a beast after the bike ride. I drank a whole camel back on the bike, so I had to pee soooooooo bad during the run. Since it was on a dam, I had no where to go, so after much pain, I peed on the trail. I know, gross, but I ran the rest of the way without a hitch. I was desperate. Its like child birth= modesty goes out the window!

Finished and very happy about that!

Poor Jaylen was so sleepy when I came in..

I couldn't believe it! We were eating some BBQ, and getting ready to take off, so I went to get my stuff at the transition area, and I heard my name being announced for the 2nd place medal for ages 25-29! I was pretty stoked, and honestly, blown away, yet very very happy.

Here's some pictures that a co-worker of Aaron's shot:
