Saving and silliness

I was remembering some fun stories about Jaylen from lately, and before I forget I wanted to write them down.

On the way home from the Y in Lakewood, we commonly make our stop to pick up groceries or things needed at Walmart. Jaylen always is begging for an Icee at the Subway in the Walmart every time we go. We had just gotten a flier on a Halloween and Santa Train that we really want to go on with Jaylen. With money being tight, we've been trying to cut back however we can- this includes the temptation to stop at Subway every time we go into Walmart. It was funny to discuss with Jaylen after him begging and begging throughout Walmart for the Icee about why we weren't getting it.

I asked him if he knew where money came from. He said, "Do you just buy some when we leave the store? Can we just pick some up at the store?" I asked him why he thought Daddy was at work during the day. He said, "Because he works by some really neat train tracks that he likes to look at." I explained to him that I go training at the Y and Daddy goes to work all day to make money for us to do fun things, buy food, clothes, go on the Santa Train, etc. He was really inquisitive. "What do you do for money at the Y?" I make people healthy and strong. He said, "Oh mom, that's such a good choice for you!" Really made me laugh.

Anyways, at Walmart, I told him that if we spent all our monies on Icees we wouldn't be able to go on the Santa Train, that we needed to save our money to do really fun things like that. I didn't want to get to deep on the subject, since he is 3 and I don't want him feeling stressed on money, but wanted him to understand why he doesn't always get whatever he wants right then. He said, "Well why don't we buy the Icee now and you can go make people healthy Mom and make more money." He always amazes me with how fast his brain processes stuff. It was a cute talk on money, how to save it and why, and by the time we were checking out and walking by Subway and the Icee machine he was okay to be leaving without one and was calm. (BTW, we did get some Santa Train tickets for our family in December and Jaylen has been really good about not throwing a fit when he doesn't get something right then anymore.)

Jaylen today as we walked back in the door at home: "Mom, when Dad and I are together we're really sweet with each other." It was completely random and completely cute.

Jaylen on the way to the YMCA last week: "Mom, if I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables can I get so big and strong like Daddy?" I love how much he adores his Daddy!

Me: "Jaylen, I love you. I really hope you love your life with us."
Jaylen: "I really love my life Mom. It's just really, really fun."

One night Jaylen was bouncing around on the couch and told us the story of Adam and Eve. Quite impressive I might say. Scripture scouts and nursery are really doing their job. It is quite amazing and entertaining to ask him questions and actually get an answer that relates.

Jaylen was definitely born from children of the 80s. He's really into wearing his shirts with one sleeve off his shoulder. It drives us CRAZY. Not only does he completely stretch out his shirts, but he looks completely ridiculous showing off his boney little shoulder. He's been doing this for a couple months now. Maybe 80's is coming back in style?

Shoot, I had one more story and totally blanked it while writing the saving money story. ER. I'll add it hear once I remember. It was a good one, I'm sure. Speaking of that- Aaron and I always joke that we're going to be like the Notebook. He's going to have to remind me of my life one day. Really sad, and I hope it really is just a joke, but my memory is crap! Mommy brains, perhaps?

Edgley family!

Love this guy!

Aaron is so silly, i love it!

Censored Nudity- bathtime!

Gavin can finally sit up pretty sturdy in the tub so the boys had their first bath together. They were adorable. I found a way to blur out the unmentionables to protect the innocent.

Jaylen looks SO long here- especially his legs!

Babysitting

Hannah watched our kidos while we went to the Halloween party. This is where they were when we came home. Gavin was laughing and smiling and loving sitting in Hannah's lap.

Adult Halloween fun

Rach and Ben doing the ring toss.

My costume as Michael Jackson

Ben and Aaron- Gay cowboys carrying one sleeping bag. Oh these two are so much trouble when they get together.

We went to an adult Halloween party at some friend's house from our ward. It was really fun. The costumes were so creative, food was great, and nice to have a break from the kidos for a night. We played some really fun games. It was pretty hilarious. It took alot of people some time to figure out Ben and Aaron, and once they did they threw them a jolly rancher and told them they were "jolly ranchers." They crack me up.

Cute, happy Gavin

Gavin was so cute in this little outfit a client from NM gave us.

Gavin doesn't like baby food anymore, but wants to eat anything we're eating. He loves Cheerios, animal crackers and mashed potatoes (that we know of so far!). He's such a happy kid. Goes to sleep so easy, sucks his thumb and sits up great and plays with toys well. He has started leaning in and giving kisses- THE BEST! He's really opposite from Jaylen, in that he doesn't like to snuggle or be held facing you. Unfortunately he still is waking up once or twice a night. THIS MUST CHANGE. Not sure what to do, but I am badly missing my sleep- uninterrupted sleep.  He's lucky he is so adorable!

Aaron was snuggling Jaylen to sleep tonight and came in laughing saying Jaylen had told him, "Hey Dad, um, I just really wish I could hold a seahorse in my hands one day." That was it. No context or lead in or anything.

Our neighbors next door, Gus and Max, have moved. I'm not sure who is more sad right now, me or Jaylen. I don't think Jaylen understands they're gone. I told him and he ran out the door right away saying, "Mom, I need to go play with Gus so I don't miss him!!" I'm really sad he won't have his little buddies to play with anymore. I'm not sure what he'll do during the day anymore- he's such a social, active guy and spent most his time running between our houses playing typical little boy games. I am hoping to enroll him in classes at the Y this week. I think he'll love doing swimming lessons, gymnastics, and t-ball. Hopefully that'll ease the blow of losing his buddy.

Jaylen says and does so many funny things. I keep thinking of things I need to write down, but forget once I get on here. I'll make a list once I remember some things and record them later. He constantly makes us laugh. Such a silly, sweet guy!

Two cuties!

I LOVE THAT SMILE!

They look SO similar!
Jaylen got really tired of taking pictures. Oh, they make me laugh!

Pt Defiance 50k Ultra Marathon

GORGEOUS Pt. DEFIANCE!

Coming down the hill to the finish..

I loved coming off the third lap, seeing my cute boys waving, clapping, smiling and cheering for us. So happy to see them- Jaylen was so excited about running with us..

6 hours and 19 minutes later...

My sister-in-law, Jenny, Paulette (lady who has done hundreds of marathons), and Nastasha!

During lap 3

YAY!

The best cheering squad I could ask for!

Jaylen finishing up "his race"
Gorgeous picture Nastasha caught in the morning..

This hill was a KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nastasha and some of her running buddies!

Ropes, all the way down. Crazy fun.
I can't believe I can say I'M AN ULTRA MARATHONER! I read a quote as I was looking up how to train for an ultra and it mentioned the percentage of people who are runners (which was very small), then it went on to state that "99% of runners will never attempt an ultra." Which, at the time made me sweat, but now that it's over with I'm amazed.

After finishing the Richmond marathon years ago, I swore to never to do one again.  What I've come to realize is- running is an acquired passion, training is so important, and doing it with a buddy makes it actually fun, instead of work.

Nastasha talked me into doing this one, and I had never even heard of Ultra marathons. More than 26.2 miles? Are you crazy?! After many runs with Nastasha, I started to think I could pull it off. We put in a few 13, 12, 18, 20 milers and I really felt good on all of them. She is the best running partner ever- it really makes it enjoyable. So I finally signed up! My sister-in-law Jenny decided to fly in to do it as well. Way fun!

One thing I've learned is, it is amazing the power of your brain. Thinking back to HS when I thought cross country runners were nuts for running 3.1 miles, then progressing to 13 miles being nuts, finally a marathon- thinking this was my crowning moment as a runner. Now, to be doing an ultra and absolutely love it when I'm done, is just mind blowing. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. That I'm certain of now. I think back to training for the Sunriver 1/2 marathon and how big a deal a lot of my "long" runs were to me then. It's mind boggling how far I've come, mentally, to think of 13 miles as a normal, morning run. Big thanks to Nastasha for believing in me, for being a ridiculously driven individual, and pushing me. Love her!

The race was three gorgeous 10.6 mile loops through trails and along the water front. We saw deer and racoons. The aid stations were incredible with candy bars, soda, chips, candy, cookies, grapes- all the good stuff. Aaron told us, "You're all just a bunch of pigs running through the woods!" It definitely cracked us up.  Right afterwards, I was nursing Gavin and Nastasha looked at me so disgusted, "Are you really breastfeeding right now after doing 32 miles?!" I gave her a thumbs up and said, "And I'm a Mormon." Oh, funny, considering the funny Colbert report mentioning the Catholics competing for cool ads like the new "I am a Mormon" ads. (If you haven't seen it- you must look it up. Way too funny.)

I am definitely sore, but feeling really good compared to the Richmond marathon. I ran 8 miles today and I think it loosened me up perfectly. I'm debating on moving on to the next level of Ultra- the 50 miler. When Nastasha first told me about this, I thought it was completely insane, but somehow I think it is not only doable, but completely fun sounding. I need to think about this one, but maybe next June I'll be hitting the 50 mile Ultra- Rainer to Rails with Nastasha.

After I fed Gavin and was eating some food afterwards, he wouldn't stop smiling at me. It was so adorable and melted my heart!
