Train crazy

Jaylen is obsessed by trains- and I totally mean it. He falls asleep looking at his train book every night. He looks at it till it falls on his face, falls on the floor, etc.

34 1/2 weeks

34 1/2 weeks:

I'm in the home stretch, even though these last few weeks feel soooooo long. I feel very fortunate though-despite my back aches, intense pelvic pain, sleeping discomfort- that I can still work with all my clients, exercise on the elliptical an hour a day, play racquetball a couple times a week (not near as well of course!), and take a nap on occasion when I can get Jaylen to take one. I do feel noticeably more uncomfortable though in the past 2 weeks (the extra 40 lbs is NOT feeling good), and am getting more and more excited to have our little guy here.

Jaylen's 3rd birthday party with friends

With Jaylen's birthday coming up on Wednesday, we decided to have a party for him today to celebrate his 3rd birthday with his friends. It was a blast. They are quite the fun group. Here's some pictures from our day:

Aaron creating Jaylen's train cake:

It turned out awesome!! Aaron is super creative and Jaylen LOVED it.

3!! (Jaylen can't figure out how to make numbers with his fingers yet. It's so fun to watch him try though).

A little birthday meal before the party. Ham, salad, mashed potatoes and rolls. Jaylen was so excited to eat "green eggs and ham."

Aaron went to get ice cream and came back with Thomas the Train balloons. Jaylen was beyond excited and ran up and down the hall a million times with them.

Jaylen's friends: Tess, Landon, and Julie. Missing Cody, Zach and the 2 new baby girls!

Julie and Jaylen. They are so adorable.

Ice cream and cake for the kidos outside. They were sooo fun to watch. They were giggling like crazy, singing random songs, and just having a great time outside together.

"Adults" inside:

Jonah and Noah couldn't get over how crazy it was to watch Aaron reach this branch and tie the pinata up. They think he's a super hero. It's the best.

Kidos swinging at the pinata.

Noah helping out Jaylen with his swing:

Note: Noah and Jonah are some neighbor friends/church pals who Jaylen adores.

It was soooo funny watching Noah blindfolded swinging at the pinata. The best.

Noah pitched Aaron the pinata and Aaron swung and punched it open. Candy went flying EVERYWHERE.

It was hilarious listening to Jonah and Noah in amazement over how far the candy went after Aaron punched it. Aaron truly is a super hero to them. Where Jonah is (black shirt) is where Aaron was standing, and candy landed all the way out where Aaron (white shirt) and Noah are in the back.

It was a gorgeous day, fun friends, and Jaylen was so excited about everything. He is so fun to watch socialize and play with friends. It was perfect. I love our little 3 year old.

Approaching 3!

Jaylen is almost 3 on Wednesday! Today we decided to have a little party with his friends to celebrate.

Here's today:

Here was just last year:

Crazy how times flies. Jaylen's gotten so much bigger and grown so much in so many ways in 1 year! I can't wait to see what this next year has in store! I keep thinking he's as cute as he'll ever be, but he just keeps getting more handsome and adorable. Love our little man!

Here's his Lobo Louie growth chart..

My sweetie's home!

As I said in my earlier post, Jaylen was at Steve and Ellie's house for the weekend and we picked him up yesterday. Although he turned into somewhat of a monster after we arrived to get him, I am extremely happy to have him home again.

I don't think this will ever get old:

It was so nice to have a break and really helps me appreciate dealing with the day to day of being a mom. It's a lot of work, but he is soooo worth it. 2 days is not that long, but when I saw him I swear he looked like he had already grown. I've just been amazed at how much of a big boy is he. The combination of wearing underwear and having to get him clothes in 6T is just crazy.

He went and saw the train station (Steve said he looked like he could have exploded upon arriving at the station), played with a race track, went to a flea market, picked out some fruit snacks at the grocery store and was plenty excited about a train book he got at the train station.

Also, the blanket he's sleeping with above is an adorable Thomas the Train blanket Aunt Sandy Edgley sent him for Christmas. He LOVES it. It was super sweet of her to send that, along with some yummy fudge, scriptures for the boys, a quarter collection for Aaron, and a cute blanket for baby boy #2 (I think we're leaning towards Gavin- or Miles. I think we'll just have to see him). It was really thoughtful!! Thanks Aunt Sandy!!

Oh dear

Jaylen has been grabbing books off our shelf in our room lately after a nap to look at. The gospel art picture book, random Sunday school manuals, stuff like that. Well, this is the book he grabbed last week after a nap- a book I believe Alex gave to us as a gag gift a year or so ago. I asked him what he was reading and he said, "Oh, the commandments." It was pretty funny. He was totally clueless (and I made sure there were no pictures!).

At least now he's all read up and we won't have to have that talk later (RIGHT!)

Steve and Ellie offered to take Jaylen for the weekend, so we've had a really fun weekend to play and rest together. It's been REALLY nice. We've slept in, gone to eat, taken naps, watched movies, ran errands, and just sat and talked (that is close to impossible now days, with Jaylen constantly saying, "Mom, mom, MOMMMMM" when we try to talk).

I must say, I REALLY miss Jaylen. In fact, I heard a song on the radio when I was going to pick up Aaron after work Friday (after Steve had gotten Jaylen), that made me cry thinking about Jaylen being gone-possibly ridiculous pregnancy hormones. But, wow, that little boy puts so much fun, cuteness, and just pure joy into my life. I miss having him in the back seat, jabbering away about whatever random thought is in his head. I miss all his silly, honest questions. I really love being a mom- especially to my Jaylen.

Jaylen has gone the whole week in underwear and had very few accidents. YAHOOOOOOO!!! I took him to child care in his underwear the last half of the week and he used the potty each time! It's really, really exciting and I'm so proud of him.

As a reward, the child care ladies give him a sheet of stickers each time he goes. When I went to get him Friday, they told me they had given him the stickers and he was passing them out to all of his friends and kept none for himself. He is such a sweet, caring little guy. It made me really proud of him and lucky to be his mom.

Another quick story- since church is now at 11 am instead of 9 am, we've been enjoying having pancakes or waffles together on Sunday for breakfast. Well, Thursday I had the morning with Jaylen at home and asked if he wanted to make some pancakes. He answered very sternly, "No, no mommy. We can't- Daddy's not here for pancakes." I was impressed of his loyalty to our tradition of eating pancakes together as a family and his loyalty to Aaron. In fact, I still made some pancakes and he barely ate part of one.

I love watching the personality come out of this kid. He is just the best thing ever, and he's all ours to enjoy! Love being a parent!

Train car!

Jaylen is working on day 3 of no diaper changes needed! One of the best incentives has been being able to play with his train table and watch Thomas the Train or Bob the Builder at night if he can go on the potty all day.

On his Bob the Builder show (of course it deals with trains), they had kids make a train out of a box- so tonight for FHE we decided to use the idea from the show. It was a hit. Jaylen loved helping us glue, color, staple and create his own train.

This is how most of the pictures turned out.... I could barely get him to stand still for a minute for a picture. He was running back and forth saying, "Chugga, chugga, CHOOO CHOOOOOO!"

33 weeks

This was last week or so, so about 32 weeks. I'm really not sure how alike this pregnancy is compared to Jaylen- I'd say similar, but I do feel like I carry a little smaller. Smaller- but just as uncomfortable. It's nice not having as big a belly out there, but that means the baby is much more internal and reeking habit on my internal organs.

A good friend of mine had her baby last week (she is adorable!) and a girl I went to high school with, who was due the day after me, had her twins TODAY. It totally blew me away. They are close to 5 lbs each too! Crazy to think it's coming that fast (although it doesn't feel like it much of the time!). I am extremely excited to lay on my stomach/back again, and get back to my hobbies of sports and races, not worry about my belly sticking out of the bottom of my shirts- I'm also trying to remember how nice it is to be able to lay down and not have a crying baby wanting me quite yet.

Still not sold on a first name. We have a list I think we'll choose from, but who knows.

What do you think?

No Food with Fire!!!

I forgot to write down this story a couple weeks ago and was reminded about it when we were out today.

We went to a teppan place and Jaylen was loving it, until the chef did the little fire in the onion thing on the grill and banged on the side with his spatula to scare everyone. Jaylen spent the rest of the night gripped onto my neck with his eye closed, scared to death. We had to spoon feed him because he refused to open his eyes- dinner, ice cream, everything. Poor kid.

Well, over a month later we were headed to lunch with some friends and turned on the street that restaurant was on, and Jaylen said really loud, "I don't want any food with fire!!!!" I realized he was referring to the teppan place- I couldn't believe he knew where we were and made the association. So, I guess any more teppan visits will have to be kid-less date nights.

Square to spare?

I swear Jaylen is a reincarnated adult (my dad) coming back in child form to torture me sometimes.

Yesterday on the way into the gym we stopped off at the bathrooms in the youth room, where there is only 2 stalls (I commonly have Jaylen go potty in there before heading into child care). I found myself in the stall next to Jaylen without any toilet paper. So I asked Jaylen to pass some toilet paper under to me. After much prodding I got half a square with boogers in it. After more begging, I got a used piece from him. A few minutes of prodding later, I finally got a manageable amount of clean toilet paper to get the job done. It was a scary situation.

Unfortunately, this morning I made our way to the bathroom to find myself in the same predicament. No one had refilled the toilet paper- so dumb. So I asked Jaylen in the stall next door to pass under some toilet paper. He quickly replied, "Mommy, go poopy first and then I'll give some to you." Months of potty training coming to bite me in the butt. I said, "C'mon Jaylen, pass some under. I'm all done." He said, "You need to go poopy first, Mom," very sternly. Eventually I got him to pass me under some. 5 minutes late to my session and smiling to myself the whole way there.

What a personality on this kid. I have a feeling he'll be a jokester like his dad- his whole life.

Neat!

I realized something yesterday that I thought was really neat.

So Jaylen Scott (middle named after Aaron's deceased dad), was born on February 2nd, a day before Scott's birthday.

I'm due with this next little boy, "Unknown" Eugene (middle named after my deceased dad), a day after my dad died- March 9th.

What will make it really unique is if baby #2 ends up looking a lot more like the Westhoff side, and Jaylen keeps his Edgley look.

Realizing this also made me sweat, because my dad used to tell me I'd be blessed with some extra wild children when I used to tease and torture him. So hopefully my dad has some mercy up there and isn't training this next one to make me mentally insane. Although, I know he'd get a big kick out of it. Drats.

New Years fun and our boy at 35 months!

We went to Itz (a way better version of Chuck E Cheese) for New Year's Eve and had a blast! We all enjoyed the buffet, watching Jaylen all excited about the games, picking out prizes from our tickets, and watching Madagascar in one of the eating rooms. It was a great way to end 2010.

Jaylen wasn't sure what to think waiting for this spinning ride to start, but quickly was smiling and enjoying himself...

Jaylen was all excited about riding this train, but we failed to mention it was a roller coaster and it was way fast for him at first, but after a couple laps he was smiling and happy to be riding..

Jaylen LOVED the bowling. He got so excited about the pins falling and had quite the arm (with absolutely no aim). It was the best.

Jaylen loved the ice cream!

Jaylen is hilarious.

Potty training has been a nightmare. We've tried it all- leaving him naked all day (our house just turns into a latrine and he thinks it's sooo funny to pee on the floor), offering treats every time he goes, giving him money to put in a jar, having a potty celebration, calling his favorites to tell them of his potty success, washing him off in cold water- he just doesn't care to be messy. He also shows many signs of wanting to and needing to, so it's hard to just wait "till he's ready" because he's obviously ready by many of the things we catch him doing (pooping on trees, hiding on the potty at the ward party, etc).

Our newest incentive is that he'll get to stay with Steve and Ellie if he can go potty in the toilet for the week. We're hoping to have him potty trained so when baby comes he can go stay with them and have them not worry about changing him. So far it's working really well. He loves it over there, so he's motivated!

Here's his poop face. Isn't it the best? I'm totally blowing this up and framing it to put it on the wall for when he's a teenager.

Happily using the potty. Let's hope it continues to be a happy process.

Here's a conversation from today with Jaylen while driving to get Aaron:

Jaylen: "Where's that big RV truck going?"
Me: "It's going somewhere to have fun."
Jaylen: "What's he want to have fun for?"
Me: "So they can smile."
Jaylen: "Why would they want to smile for?"
Me: "So they can be happy."
Jaylen: "What would they want to be happy for?"
Me: "Cause being happy is good."
Jaylen: "Why is being happy so good?"
It was never ending. I love our curious little boy.

I love asking him questions and seeing what he says now days.
We drove by where the news helicopter sits and he asked me what the helicopter was doing. I asked him what he thought it was doing. He said, "Oh, he's just going to tape something for the news." It was pretty funny, and it always amazes me how much he actually gets.

He is all about his "All about Me" book that Grandma Merilee made and gave him for Christmas. He asks to read it several times throughout the day and loves looking at pictures of the past year. It's adorable. It's fun to reminisce with him about the fun we've had throughout the year.

After passing the car off to Aaron and he dropped us off at home, he left to go back to work without Jaylen getting to give him a hug and kiss. As soon as Jaylen noticed he left, he ran to the door saying, "Where is Daddy going?? I need a hug and kiss!" He opened the door and ran to the balcony edge yelling, "But Daddy, I'll miiiissssss you!!!" It was heart breaking and adorable. He's so sweet with his hugs and kisses. He's been telling Aaron when he gets home from work, "I missed you Daddy!" right when he walks in the door. It's soooo cute. I love their relationship.

We were looking at seeing a movie last week and somewhere we must have said a movie was rated PG. Ever since Jaylen will say PG randomly and crack up laughing. He thinks "PG" is so funny. I have no idea what he thinks is so funny, but we sure laugh at what he finds amusing.

Randoms

Jaylen has said some funny things lately. Like:

Jaylen: "Mom, you have a pee-pee?"
Me: "Um, yeah, just not the same pee-pee as you."
Jaylen: "You just have buns??"

I was giving Jaylen a horse ride on my back last night, when Jaylen announced I was more like a cow and kept mooing. Maybe he thinks the baby is my udder?! Aaron and I both busted up laughing. Such a funny kid- gotta love childhood honesty.

Also, Jaylen has been wearing one of my heart rate monitor watches and he loves it. We ask him what time it is, and he looks at it and gives us some random number. Like, 6-45-6. It's so funny. "What time is it Jaylen?" "Oh... it's 8, 5."

Oh New Mexico. How conflicted I am about this crazy state. The weather is the best, I love the many activities and events the city has to offer, but the people here are down right ridiculous. So entitled, trashy, inconsiderate and just plain frustrating sometimes. On top of having our scooter stolen this week, I was walking with Jaylen down to do some laundry and a couple of black guys were walking by and made small talk about it being cold. When we got to the mail boxes, one of the guys said, "This might be a weird question, but you got a man?" I said, "Um yeah, in fact, I'm married with this 2 year old and a baby on the way." He said, "Well, you happy? Just cause you're married don't mean you're happy." I said "Yes, extremely happy" and he replied, "Well if things change, come find me." SERIOUSLY?! The 2 times I've been hit on here in New Mexico has been since I've been noticeably pregnant. Does that not mean anything to anyone anymore? So weird, and so awkward. I just shook my head. RIDICULOUS. We need a new place to live.
