I said this in the last post, but this is probably my favorite age of Jaylen so far. Here's a few reasons why:
*Overhearing Jaylen saying a bedtime prayer with Aaron in his room, where Jaylen says, "Thank you for Daddy kisses," and hearing Aaron's heart melt with a giggle.
*His bedtime prayers are the best, he always says thank you for "mommy, daddy, daddy, mommy," "Jesus" and other random things.
*Jaylen telling us he learned about Jesus and the Holy Ghost after nursery today.
*Jaylen saying, "I'm scared!" in the most innocent way when the vacuum or blender is brought out.
*Jaylen asking for snuggles. "Want to snuggle Goofy! (but it comes out goopy)." or "Snuggle Daddy!"
*Jaylen pointing out a church and saying, "Temple!!" or pointing to a picture in our bathroom of President Hinckley with his wife saying, "Prophet!"
*Hearing Jaylen trying to talk me into giving him "chocolate" or "candy."
*Jaylen asking for a "smoopie (smoothie)." He says it soooooooo CUTE and he loves sucking the daylights out of his straw once he gets it!
*Jaylen singing the "Clean up" song while putting his toys away, and hearing him sing the "Happy Birthday" song when he's wanting ice cream.
*When Jaylen bumps something or does something "Ouchie" he says, "Ouch!! That hurts!" in the cutest way! He also loves to ask for kisses on whatever was hurt, then promptly says, "All better!"
*How often he loves to say, "I love you mommy, daddy, daddy, mommy." (He likes to say our names twice).
*Loves to give a kiss and immediately after ask, "Oh, hug??" then give a sweet hug.
*I've gotten really into the winter Olympics and Jaylen loves to say, "Mommmmmy! Its SNOWIN!" Too bad we hate cold weather, cause I think this kid would love living in lots of snow..
*He constantly says, "MoooooommmmmmMMYY!" around the house. He loves to constantly get my attention and tell me what he's doing at all times. He's kind of a mommy's boy when it comes to that. He loves following me around calling out my name. It can get to be a little too much, but really I love it all the time. He's really turning into my little buddy!
*Jaylen will call us Aaron and Cera on occasion and its funny to hear him call us by our real names.
* He loves bringing books out for us to read to him. Especially his Fire Engine book and "Elmo doggies" book. We have them memorized. He also still loves the book, "Daddy kisses" that we got from the hospital when he was born. He still loves to have Aaron read it to him every night.
*When he reads books and in lots of other situations he'll ask and point, "Whats DAP (that)?!" Its cute to see his curiosity come through in his speech!
*In the morning he commonly grabs my cellphone, comes to me and says, "Love you Grandma!" He loves to talk to Merilee on the phone and she's so nice to listen and try to make sense of his language!
*Hearing Jaylen say, "Scriptures!!" when we go back to put him to bed. We got a simplified, picture version of the scriptures that Jaylen enjoys reading before bed.
It's just so fun to see his little personality come out. He's been a challenge to me, since he is amazingly active, doesn't like to sleep easily, and is all over the place with curiosity; so it's really fun to see this super sweet, loving personality coming out. It makes everything he does just so cute, even if he is all over the place!
He is talking SO much and really understands alot. We went to the zoo again after not going for a few months and it was SO great! He walked the whole time by himself, actually stayed somewhat close and would come over to me when I called him for the most part (I was shocked), and really enjoyed the animals. He was extremely obsessed with the trains there, so next time we can all go together, we'll take the train. Jaylen will LOVE IT!
Terrible twos? I don't think so. It was more like terrible 2 years before 2!
Love this little boy!

cuteness
Just a quick video of some cute stuff Jaylen says now days. So far, this is my favorite age of Jaylen. He somewhat listens to what I say and he just says the cutest little things!
And by the way, yes, he'll eat a whole carrot like that. He's half rabbit.

HAPPY 28TH BIRTHDAY AARON!
Happy Happy Birthday Aaron dear!
What a fun day to celebrate Aaron's birthday! Tuesday is a slower day for Aaron anyways, so he was able to have the entire day off, and my clients were out of town too, so we had the whole day together! The day started out with some french toast (Aaron's favorite breakfast!), a short nap (yes, all 3 of us!), then Aaron went off to play 18 holes of golf (Jaylen and I walked up later and lasted 3 holes), then had a fantastic meal at Olive Garden and then went home for some banana splits (Aaron's favorite dessert!). It was fantastic! Here's some pictures of our fun day..
Starting out the back 9...

swing!

Jaylen loved watching Daddy then mimicking him. It was really adorable.

Love, love, love this picture. Jaylen ADORES Aaron.

Such a beautiful backdrop to play golf in! Beautiful Albuquerque mountains!

Cheese! Right before going out for birthday dinner!

Quick family picture before heading out to eat..

Yummmmm! Our banana splits!

Jaylen can now somewhat sing the "Happy Birthday" song. He's really cute at it too. He walked around all day trying to sing it to Aaron. He loves the candles and having the lights off!

Jaylen very quickly grabbed the hat, put it on and said, "MINE!" We had a good laugh over it.

Jaylen wants to be just like his daddy and have a hat too!

Happy Birthday Sweet Pea! We love you!!!!

One of my favorite things- listening to Aaron and Jaylen at bedtime....

They are so so so cute together! Love that father/son relationship!

Jaylen loves to get up on the vanity while I'm getting ready in the morning and mimics what I do. Its pretty funny and a little upsetting to Aaron since Jaylen loves to act like he's putting on make up saying, "Pretty, pretty!" and act like he's doing his hair. The other morning he said, "Mommy's pretty!" over and over while I was getting ready. It was super sweet. I love this age- he says so many cute things I don't know where he picks them up from!
Who doesn't love cute baby buns?

He LOVES brushing his teeth, or maybe just eating the toothpaste. Whatever the case, its cute and his teeth get clean!

I love this cute little guy! He's such a sweetie!

Valentine's Day 2010!
Valentine's Day was really fun this year for us.
Just to give some background for this post, last year our Valentine's Day did not go well. I was really depressed around the time, feeling like I'd lost so much of my life/self and that things would never be the same after having Jaylen, personally and relationship wise. I was especially feeling "mommy blues" around Valentine's Day. I was homebound without a car at the time and Aaron was busy at school and work, so the day came and we didn't really have anything planned. Pre-baby we were always doing cute, creative things to surprise each other, so it deepened my sad feelings that our life was no longer the same. It really wasn't anyone's fault, and we have a great relationship- we just were busy and learning how to adapt to life with this insanely cute, but challenging child and the day slipped by us.
Well, from that experience I vowed that things would be different. I couldn't let those fun things we always enjoyed go away. So this Valentine's Day I was determined to have fun and make it special.
Friday night I snuck outside to heart attack Aaron's scooter..

It was really fun decorating his scooter for his ride to work the next day. I put a big heart on the back that said, "Honk if you think my husband's hot!" Aaron said he got plenty of honks. I also put hearts on his helmet and kiss marks on the shield. He was surprised the next morning!

I made and hid some breakfast casserole I popped in the oven Sunday morning for a special Valentine's breakfast. It was yummy and nice to have a fun breakfast together before 9 am church!
After church I had Aaron and Jaylen play in Jaylen's room while I set up a picnic on our back porch. I picked up some chips, fruit and made sandwiches for us to eat together. The weather was a beautiful 50 something outside and it was really fun to be outside, eating together. Jaylen loved it!

Aaron gave me a cute picture frame with a picture of us kissing below balloons at the balloon fiesta. It was fun having Valentine's Day on Sunday so we had all day to relax and have a good day together.
As a side note, going back to work this past year has been the best thing ever for me. The depressed feelings I constantly had in the first year or so of having Jaylen has improved SO, SO much. I feel like I'm much happier and have so much more energy to put back into my family.
We also got a fun Valentine's package from Merilee and Bryan, full of candy and a cute singing card for Jaylen. He loves listening to it and he never ceases to ask for candy. Its fun to have Jaylen understanding and enjoying holidays now days!
I'm thankful for my two sweeties and loved being able to have fun celebrating our family together on Valentine's Day!

Knocking out teeth and auditioning for Survivor
I realized there has been a few fun/crazy things that have happened in the past couple months that I haven't recorded. They don't have to do with Jaylen, and I think that's how they've been left out.
The day after getting back from Utah over Christmas break, my friend Evelyn and I, went out to an open call audition for Survivor. It was an interesting experience. It was held in a casino and the people that were there to audition were hilarious and interesting to say the least. We filled out a bunch of paperwork then waited for our turn to get in front of the camera. A small group was called then we were lead into another room with 8 or so other people. Once your name was called, they put you in front of a big ol camera and told you you had 3 minutes, then counted down and said "Go." It was pretty nerve racking to me having those bright lights and a big ol camera pointed straight at you, then have to talk about yourself. I stuttered out why I believe I should be on Survivor, which only lasted probably 30 seconds. I felt dumb, but it was fun to give it a try! From what we heard, hardly anyone has ever been casted from an open call- but hey! I can say I tried!
Other story was a couple weeks ago, a girl I train and commonly play racquetball with, were playing racquetball after a training session. We're pretty competitive and at pretty similar skill levels and we're always talking trash and battling it out. Well, we happened to be in a really close game- She had decided weeks ago we would play with no "henders," so I felt like she was getting in my way to make me lose some points. I was serving game point (16-15) and we were in an intense battle. Last shot I swung as hard as I could and realized she was standing right next to me, slightly behind me, and my racket connected with her teeth. She went to the ground immediately holding her mouth. She was in alot of pain, and she swore her teeth felt moved. She took off. A couple hours later at home, I got a call from her saying she was going home from the dentist and I had knocked out her two front teeth- she had a wear a retainer for weeks and get root canals done. Poor girl. We've had some good laughs over it, even though she is still having alot of issues with her teeth. She won't stand that close to me and try to make me miss the shot again I'm sure! Not everyday you knock someone's teeth out! Too bad it hadn't happened before my Survivor auditions- it could have been a good story to tell...

More video of Jaylen right at 2 years- vacuuming and jumping in bed!
Jaylen's quite the helper, especially when it comes to vacuuming. He's definitely my son (I LOVE to vacuum. The fresh vacuum lines are the best!)
Here's Jaylen jumping his animals around in his bed. As you will see, he thought it was pretty darn funny. Love this kid.

Cutest kid ever. Period.
Jaylen in one snuggly kid. We love it. He pulled all his animals into our room the other morning and snuggled them on the floor. It was really adorable.

Here's some pictures Aaron got the other night of Jaylen reading books with his animals. He's really into books now days! Its really fun to have him laugh and get into them when we read them!

Video of his snuggle session with his animals...
Jaylen looking outside, saying "I love you" and doing his new disgusting favorite thing, picking his nose. Yuck.
Jaylen out of the blue a month or two ago, started saying, "six, seven, eiiighttt!" I don't know quite where he learned to count those numbers but he's been counting to ten the past month or so and I had to record it. Its really cute. He gets a little mixed up and needs some help at 3-5, but he's got the rest of it down.

Jaylen's 2nd Birthday!
Wow! Our little boy is 2! What a fun year its been- full of crazy, fun times. Jaylen is learning like crazy and doing so many cute and sometimes rambunctious things. Here's a look at his birthday this year!
Family picture at bedtime..

We invited Steve and Ellie over for dinner before Jaylen's party. A couple of Jaylen's friends were supposed to come over to help celebrate later, but some illness and unexpected plans came up, so his friends weren't able to come over, but we had a great time celebrating with Steve and Ellie!
They got him some really fitting candy hearts- "Wild Child"

All Jaylen wanted to eat all night was his "fish" cake and candy...

We did a pinata and Jaylen LOVED seeing all the candy come out. He kept saying, "yummy! yummy!"

Grandma Merilee and Bryan got Jaylen this awesome tricycle! We've never seen anything like it, its super fun. Jaylen loves it. He's been cruising around on it all morning.

Steve and Ellie gave Jaylen a talking card that he couldn't (and still can't) stop listening to! It has a couple french guys saying Happy Birthday and Oui, Oui and such. Its really cute.

Steve and Ellie brought over an adorable fish cake, which made us all laugh, reliving Jaylen's goldfish story from last week.

Jaylen also opened a couple books from Merilee. I wish I would have gotten him opening the Snow book, he was really funny reacting to it! He's been obsessed with snow since we were in Utah for Christmas.
Getting on his trike
Birthday song...
He really ramped up his hitting when we told him candy was in there!
His day even included a trip to the doctor for his 2 year check up. He was in great health and growing great! His weight was 28.5 lbs (54%) and 37 inches for his height (94%). The doctor told me that he's at the normal height he'd see for a 3 year old! He thought our idea of starting a teenage boy food savings account was a good idea...
We love you sweet boy! We're so lucky to have you in our family!

Crazy Discovery
This post is more on the personal side, but I've been thinking about it all day so wanted to record it. This morning I was looking for a card and some paper to make a thank you note, and ran across an old notebook. Months ago we lost everything on our external hard drive, which was absolutely devastating to me, since I had tons of pictures, journals from my wedding/my dad's death/ and so on.
Well, this old notebook I found started out with a bunch of jokes my cousin and aunt had written for my dad to cheer him up while he was in the hospital, recovering from chemotherapy from leukemia. At the back of the notebook, was a 5 page hand written journal entry on the day my dad passed away, detailing the whole turn events, details on the funeral and how I was feeling at the time. Although really hard to read through and relive watching my father pass away, I was extremely happy to realize my journals were not all lost, and this very important time in my life was still fresh and saved.
Its ironic to me that I found it today, on Aaron's dad's birthday, when I was thinking about him and missing our dads anyway. I've never stopped missing my dad, but I've never missed him more than I have since having Jaylen. My dad would (and I'm sure he does) love Jaylen so much and enjoy all the funny things he does. I miss having him to share and enjoy life with. I feel so grateful to have such an awesome Dad and I feel the same about Aaron's dad. I couldn't be more happy about the men we came from. I just wish sometimes that Jaylen could really know them and appreciate them like we do.
Sorry for the depressing post. I just feel really sad, yet really proud and happy, about Jaylen's awesome Grandpas today. Happy Birthday Scott, we can't wait to meet you.
