Jaylen's Top 5 Obsessions
1. THE FREAKIN' VACUUM!! Jaylen is obsessed!!!!!!! Its hilarious! As soon as he wakes up he points out the door and says "vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!" The funny thing about the vacuum is, he's also terrified of it. The minute I get close to it and go to turn it on, he freaks out and needs to sit on the couch. If I'm not using it, you better bet he's staring at it in the closet, getting twisted up in the cord, or taking the attachments on and off. I should count how many times I hear the word vacuum from his mouth in 1 day. He has the cutest way of saying it too. He'll yell it, come over to me and whisper it in my ear, say it in a scary voice.. endless ways of saying the same thing over and over.
This is probably awful of us, but it really cracks us up and it works! We discovered that the ONLY way to get Jaylen to sit still for more than a few seconds is to simply bring the vacuum out of the closet and set it there. (He's kind of outgrown his fear of it when its not on recently... but the past month this worked). Aaron had something to do one day and needed a couple minutes uninterrupted. He pulled the vacuum out and Jaylen sat still for 10 minutes. Do what you can to stay sane sometimes?! We've joked that we need to find a vacuum costume to put him in for Halloween this year...
2. Doing whatever Daddy does. Jaylen loves to put Q-tips in his ears like he sees Aaron do in the morning. Its really cute. He puts them in and continues to walk around and play with them dangling out of his ears. He's great at mimicking now days, so he often imitates us at the best times.
3. FOOD. This kid is a tank. He eats and eats and eats. He also has found a new love with Ranch, or probably anything that can be dipped into. I am constantly pulling out snacks and making food for him to eat. The ladies in child care at work tell me about how he rummages through other kids bags to eat their treats and hes always in the high chair when I go to get him (Even after a full breakfast and eating his own treats!). One lady suggested I start a savings account entirely for a food fund when he's older. Might not be a bad idea!
4. Doing it by himself. He's getting to be a rather independent little man. Loves to eat things by himself, without any help making the pieces smaller by mom or dad. Very promptly says "No" at any hint of being helped at times.
5. Phones and cords. Phones has been on his obsession list for awhile. He loves to act like (and really) talk on our cellphones. He jabbers and jabbers like crazy. I love it, its really sweet. To my dismay he LOVES playing with cords and trying to unplug and plug things in the outlet. It drives me nuts because one of these days I'm afraid he'll get hurt, and there is only so much child proofing I can do.. so that leads me to:
TIME-OUT
Jaylen's in time-out usually for one of the following:
- Climbing on the dishwasher to get on the counter
- Throwing balls over the deck (he's getting much better on this one)
- Playing with cords by the outlets
- Fits because he can't quite get something to do something the way he wants
He's a happy, active kid- so I feel lucky we don't have to use time-out too much. Its just the same thing he goes into time-out for, over and over again.
Another adorable thing he's picked up doing the past week or so, is saying "Mommy" in the cutest way ever and all the time. Whenever he's playing, waking up, or I'm out of his line of sight he yells, "Mommy!" in the sweetest little way. If he's really hungry and I'm cooking, I'll pick him up and he'll say "Oh mommy..." I just can't even describe how cute this is to me. I hope I can catch him doing it on video sometime. Its really sweet.
He still is super snuggly. He randomly stops playing and comes and sits by me on the couch and pulls a blankie up over us. Or lays his head on my belly, or lays his head on my shoulder. I love it! We loves snuggles from our little boy!
Recently after training someone I took Jaylen out to the pool to play. He was splashing around while I laid out on the side watching him. He comes crawling out of the pool, lays down belly down like I am right next to me, gets a huge smile on his face and starts jabbering like he's telling me the best story ever. It really melted my heart. He is such a sweet little boy. It makes me excited to see him grow older and be able to actually understand what he's saying and have a sweet relationship like I feel like we have now. He is one fun kid!
