October 2012...so far

What a month so far! Here's some pictures from the first half of this month:
Grape picking with Merlene, Tiffany and Todd. SOOO many grapes. DELICIOUS! This is half of what we picked! Cans, cans and more cans of grape juice!

Gavin loves giving Daddy's knee kisses (even the unhurt one!)

Fun with Hailey's hair wand, and a belt a found in the street on a run with Sharon in Hawaii. It cleaned up really nice and I love wearing it!

Spiderman in training. Jaylen's quite into spiders lately. So he's been asking to be spiderman, so a lady I visit teach was kind enough to let me borrow her son's old costume! Jaylen is THRILLED!

Gavin eats, eats, and eats. ALL THE TIME

Streaker!!

Ha! Love those baby buns!

Happy boys playing Snakes and Ladder's on Sunday morning. One of Jaylen's favorites!

Watching Preston, Jacob, and Braden's soccer game. Also, found a HUGE leaf on the run to the game. It was as big as Gavin!

Running home with Christian

Oh I love this baby. His smile and pure joy is contagious. He LOVES this blanket from Steve and Ellie last time we were in Albuquerque.
I found these pictures Jaylen had taken of himself on my phone. So cute!

Gavin is REALLY attached to this blanket. The minute it's in his hands, his thumb goes in his mouth and he's ready for sleep. So precious!

Brother kisses. Gavin gets such a kick out of our family kisses now days!

This morning I had to laugh. I had a crazy morning trying to get the kids fed, ready and headed out to get Jaylen off on the bus on time. I had barely gotten out of the shower finally, so I had soaking wet hair, Gavin squeezed an applesauce all over me on the way to the car, we came peeling up to the bus stop barely on time, I ran over with Gavin to the bank to have a notary sign a form to help replace my driver's license Gavin threw in the trash can months ago (it's been a nightmare to replace). I walked into the bank at 11:30 am, already feeling exhausted, wet frazzled hair, with applesauce down my coat. The lady who greeted me was pregnant and we were friendly chatting about it being her first child. "Normally, I'd say congratulations at a time like this, but today I'm going to tell you GOOD LUCK."

Point Defiance 50K Ultra 2012

The Defiance 50K was AMAZING this year. I was so happy and excited to do it. I can't believe it was a year ago that I did this same course, as my first ultra! It is such a GORGEOUS, challenging and fun course. I was excited about this race, because it was my first doing it on my own, at my own pace. Nastasha signed up, but after finding out she's pregnant (YAY!!), decided not to do it, so Veronique took her bib and did a lap (10+ miles) through the trails.

I was nervous because it was raining like crazy that morning. We definitely got wet, but once on the trails the trees helped block the downpour. It sprinkled throughout, but didn't really down pour till after I finished. SHEW!

I felt great through the trails. I started noticing by the end of the first lap that I was with a lot of the 15K runners. By the end of the second lap, I started realizing I was running with a lot of the 30K runners. On the third lap, I rarely saw anyone and passed anyone I saw. I started thinking, "Hey!!! I think I'll try to win this thing! Why not??"  What motivated me throughout the race was thinking about my awesome husband, who helped load music on my phone and made me a playlist to keep me sane, and I mostly daydreamed about him the whole time. Songs Let's Go (forgot singer's name) & Love on Top by Beyonce helped me when I got in a lull.  I walked on a couple big hills, stopped to snap a few pictures, but ran all the other times. I stopped very briefly to refill my camelback at the aid stations and eat a few snacks.
Veronique and I before the race
Gorgeous trails. I could roam them for days!

Owens beach- starting 3rd lap

Lookout along the trail

Crazy end- scaling down a slip-n-slide using a rope. Saw some pretty crazy wipeouts but I luckily stayed on both feet!

3 times up these stairs is excessive. Killer!

REAL comforting to see this sign! Ha!

A little "crack in the track." Don't slip on that!

LOVE

WOW! Narrow's Bridge
Up the hill of death- aka Achille's Hill
Jaylen helped run in to the finish with me. Such a sweet little buddy!

So happy to be #4 female finisher!
Here's a few from the race photographer:

Waiting for Jaylen..

I came cruising by Aaron- No time to stop!

Jaylen waiting for me at the bottom of the rope hill. Such a happy feeling to see his smiling face!

At the end, it was SO fun to see my sweet family waiting for me, and Tiffany and Todd's family came too! I was really surprised and happy to have them there. Aaron and I had a very fun night out to dessert with Tiffany and Todd the night before- such a good, fun family.

I was very happy with my results. Last year we finished in 6 hours 18 minutes, I was 73rd place overall, and 22nd for females. This year I finished in 5 hours 12 minutes (which was exciting and random, since those are my FAVORITE numbers since I was little due to my birthday being 5/12!) and finished 16th overall and 4th in the females. I felt SO much better this year too. I felt worked for sure, but felt really good. I was nothing close to as sore as I was before, especially after the 52 miler. I was only sore for a couple days and it wore off quickly. It was amazing. Nothing will phase me after that Rainier to Ruston race- it honestly felt like a warmup compared to that!

Loved it and can't wait to do another one. 50ks are the way to go. I'm very grateful to an awesome husband who supports me to do the best I can. He makes my life full of happiness and fills my runs with many fun thoughts.

Aaron

Aaron is the best. Seriously.

I've been thinking a lot about him and feel so incredibly grateful for him. As I was running last week during my race, I kept thinking about all the wonderful qualities he has. I really appreciate how supportive he is of me and even if he doesn't understand (ex: running the race I was) why I do what I do, he's happy to make it work and proud and supportive of me. He's always supportive and happy to help me do what makes me happy.

He commonly gets the kids up and ready in the morning before I get home from working at the Y, will clean up the kitchen (which I HATE to do), gives me back rubs every night, happy to play with the kids while I'm at a girl's night or running, puts the kid's to bed while I'm at mutual on Wednesdays, builds me up and helps me feel my best instead of criticizing when he could, is patient, has a positive outlook, is super silly and fun, loves playing with our cubs, he's a hard worker, loves unconditionally.. the list could go on an on. Seriously.

I was thinking about him on the way home from the Y the other day, and felt so happy and fortunate to feel so incredibly in love with someone. I feel way more in love than I did the day we got married.  He's ridiculously handsome and charming. I love that I get to play with little Aaron mini-mes all day and can't help but to smile when he walks in the door after work.

I'm a lucky woman!

This just cracks me up. I'm happy Aaron puts up with me on a continual basis!

Dream

Jaylen came in early while I was getting ready this morning. He gave me a huge hug and kiss and smiled at me so big. I asked him if he had any dreams last night. He said, "I had such a good dream last night!" I asked, "What did you dream about?" He said, "I dreamed about you, Mom and you were a superhero!" I asked, "What kind of super power did I have?" He said, "You were just a mom superhero, doing all the good things you normally do!" Completely melted my heart.

Jaylen

I really have to get better at recording the funny and cute things Jaylen says lately. He is constantly cracking us up- and if I don't write it down, I forget once I go to record it here. Here are a few I DO remember at the moment:

Me: "Jaylen, let's go. We need to go get some things at the store."
Jaylen: "Mom, I can't go to Walmart. I'm almost certain I'm allergic to that place!"

On the way to church:
"Daddy, you are a REALLY handsome butterfly today and so is Gavin. Mom, you're a pretty butterfly. Mom, every month I'm going to tell you what kind of pretty thing you are. Maybe next month you'll be a really pretty turtle."

I rushed over with the kids to my race packet pickup on Friday before heading to an appointment for Gavin. Across the street from the shoe store that was doing the packets, I saw a TRAIN store. I was in a hurry, but SOOOOO tempted to take Jaylen across the street for just a second. So, I found myself talking aloud to myself about my internal struggle about whether to do it or not but was careful not to say anything about a train store being nearby to alert Jaylen. I opted not too. Jaylen, having no idea what I debating, said, "Oh no Mom! Don't give up. You can do anything you want. Just keep trying to do the best you can and you can do it. Just think with your little brain and keep trying, okay? We'll find a way to make it work."  It was quite amazing to hear this little pep talk coming from my wise 4 year old.

On our way somewhere Jaylen was talking and said, "I just want to be a big Daddy one day."
We said, "You'll have plenty of time to be that later, just enjoy being a little boy." He said, "But I really want to be a big grown up Daddy," in such a tender voice. He loves and looks up to his Dad very much!

Jaylen was weighed and measured last week- 48" tall and 48 lbs! He was a good one inch taller on Grandma B's board than Aaron was at his age. Feel like we're raising a couple monsters... which speaking of...

GAVIN. This kid is incredible with food. I know I've said it time and time again, but he is CONSTANTLY eating something and anything. I keep thinking it's a growth spurt or something, but it's never ending. The only time he's not eating something is when he's asleep. I found him a couple days ago, on his belly outside, trying to eat grass and sip from a puddle of mud. He'll eat anything he can find and loves to find scraps in the trash can. We call him our little piggy, and he even knows how to make a cute snorting noise.  He was just weighed too, and I wish I would have written down his stats but I believe he was 28 lbs and I'll have to double check on his height.

He's understanding and saying more all the time. He loves giving Aaron's knee kisses, enjoys family kisses, doggies, and is getting more into looking at books. He's good at pointing to his belly button, saying "ewwwww!" when he's getting changed, pointing to his and others' nose, and is just in general, sooooo adorable. He enjoys using his own spoon/fork to eat, is extremely messy and loves (much to our dismay) to throw food over board from his high chair.  He loves to try to chase and wrestle Jaylen.

October

Gavin has started pulling out our little potty seat and asking to sit on it. He did go poop in it once!

Chamber's Bay kite flying

Snuggles during General Conference

My adorable cousin Hailey helping me pick apples and pears and make applesauce and fruit leather!

Gorgeous run around Chamber's Bay with Gavin and Max

Beautiful sunset
Jaylen is so adorable.

He gave Aaron a big hug this morning and expressed, "Dad, I love you more than anything!" Aaron was instantly teary eyed.

Jaylen is all about fire alarms and smoke detectors. He gets so worried about them. This morning he was talking over and over about them and he randomly said, "Mom, I just won't worry about them when I'm with my family, because I know I'll be so safe."

At dinner the other night, Jaylen said, "Mom, you'll stay here and watch Gavin while I go on a date." We asked him who he was going on a date with. He giggled and said, "I'm going to go with Heather." Watch out Mont!!

On our way somewhere I was telling Aaron my frustrations about not being able to do any long runs with friends anymore, because everyone I had done them with before are all pregnant now. Jaylen said from the back, "Mom, you're being SO silly! I will run with you any time!"  Such a sweet, thoughtful boy.
