For the love of running

I've been feeling really good. Probably too good to be thinking up plans like these, but my daily runs with Lizi have inspired in me some new training plans and I'm pretty excited about it. Here's my hopeful line up of activities for the next year or so:

Marathon of labor: March 2011
Jay Benson sprint triathlon: May 2011
Cochiti Olympic tri: August 2011
Duke City half marathon: October 2011
Rio Grande full marathon: Spring 2012

I've also heard Cochiti will include a half Ironman starting next year. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I would love to consider it in August of 2012.

I love planning/training and having something to work towards. I've really come to enjoy running this past couple years. It does so much for me mentally and physically. A huge key I've found is having a running buddy makes ALL the difference. Without Lizi, I don't think I'd have any fun doing the marathons, but with her- it'll be so great!

So that's it. I'm committed (provided I feel up to it after baby!).

A quick story about Jaylen the other day:
Earlier in the day, Jaylen had asked where we were going. I told him we were going to conquer the world.
So I put him in the stroller for a run later on and on the way out the door, he yelled, "We're going to CONQUER THE WORLD MOM!!!"

Thank you, Jaylen, for inspiring me to conquer the world!

Halloween 2010

Jaylen was such a cute monkey this year. We had a fun time at the church Trunk or Treat Friday night and a fun day at the Zoo Boo today. Here's some highlights of the weekend (so far!):

Happy boy ready to go to the Trunk or Treat.

Someone handed out this game in his bag and I caught him trying to eat it. He was totally confused why something non-edible was in his bag!

Almost 22 weeks pregnant...

Getting to the Zoo Boo today.. It was 80 degrees! Absolutely beautiful but definitely hot in the monkey suit!

This picture does a great job summing up the joy of being a parent. Seeing the curious, happy, marveling face of a child learning the world for the first time. Jaylen absolutely loved taking the train to the Zoo Boo from the Aquarium. He especially loves going through the tunnels.

Jaylen has been soooo adorable this weekend. He always is, but he was just extra cute today. He sat on Aaron's lap after dinner and talked to us for a good 15 minutes about Christmas, Santa, the meaning of Christmas, where and what we're doing for it, and other fun little questions he had. He was super snugglie and was hilarious to watch Scooby Doo with. Here's some of what he said:

Aaron: "Jaylen, what do you want Santa to bring for you?"
Jaylen: "Trains."
Aaron: "What kind of trains?"
Jaylen: "The ones up in the closet."
(He's more with it then we thought! We got him a little rescue train set at Target the other day and "hid" it up in the closet.)

During Scooby Doo, I put a blanket over my head and pretended to be like a zombie. Jaylen laughed and ran, but turned around and kept asking to "hug, kiss and snuggle zombie." If he's ever scared he asks for a hug and kiss from one of us to make sure everything's okay. It's really sweet.

Us: "What are we going to do in Moab?"
Jaylen: "Swimming, hot tub, biking, hiking, and good food eats?!"

IT'S A BOY!

So our ultrasound was last Thursday and it was really fun to see baby and find out that we're having another BOY!

The ultrasound was fun, yet overwhelming at the same time. Here's why:

Fun: baby is healthy, active and everything looked good and was growing normally. Also, my due date was showing 6 days earlier than the original. I'll take any extra time off carrying this thing that I can. So, due date is March 3rd, but I'm sticking with the 9th for mental sake.

Jaylen was adorable throughout the ultrasound. He kept saying, "He's soooo cute!"

Why it was almost dreadful:

This was the first ultrasound picture the tech took. Middle finger straight up. I seriously started sweating.
Then we saw this:

A boy. I was somewhat surprised at my reaction. I am definitely happy with having another boy. They can share clothes, a room, possibly less drama in general, and we love our Jaylen. BUT, after the ultrasound tech kept asking if I could feel all the movement going on, and was having a hard time getting measurements because he was flipping all over the place, I started getting scared. In fact, the doctor had us schedule another ultrasound because he was so active, they couldn't get all the measurements they wanted.

This was exactly the same as Jaylen. He was a constant mover inside, and it continued when he was born. I did not have an easy adjustment to motherhood, and honestly, I hated many aspects of it for quite sometime (like no sleep, an active boy who didn't want to sit still or sleep, a constantly hungry baby, constant colic cry every night, among others). So, having this ultrasound go the same, with this constantly moving child, brought many of the depressing thoughts and feelings of dealing with Jaylen as a newborn to the forefront of my mind. I wasn't expecting this at all. Somehow the thought of a girl was somewhat of a clean slate to me, where having seen this active baby boy is somehow bringing me to think this could be Jaylen Part II (which isn't bad after the first couple years- I swear we love you child!).

I know every child is different and chances are they won't be anywhere near the same, I'm still left to wonder and prepare for this sweet (hopefully CALM) baby boy. So many things will be different this time- my experience, knowledge of the stages, attitude, perspective- all things I struggled with a lot being a new mom.

So I am still optimistic about this being so much better this time around, and we are really excited to add a cute little boy into our family. The ultrasound tech did remind me that an active baby is always a good sign on an ultrasound. It means he is healthy and developing normally.

Onto the latest on Jaylen:
We went and got him some clothes on Friday- we ended up in the boy section, buying him "school uniform" outfits. Crazy- the kid wears 5T for pants and 4-5T for tops. They are definitely loose on him, but will grow into them quickly.

Me: "Jaylen, you make me smile."
Jaylen: "Mom, I'm soooo hilarious and funny."

I went to put some laundry in and Jaylen yells from our deck, "Mommy! I blub blu! (love you)." Then says, "Blub blu too little brother!" He'll be such a sweet big brother!

He has a coat that is fuzzy in the inside that he calls his "lamb." "Mom! I want to wear my lamb!!!"

Growing- Jaylen and Me!

Jaylen is growing so fast!! He has definitely been eating like a crazy man- so I'm not super surprised but geez! Here's a glance at his Lobo Louie growth chart- an inch every month and some.

I finally put away his 2-3T clothes that he's not fitting and pulled out the few 4-5T clothes I have from my client who has given us soooo many clothes for Jaylen. We've been lucky to have clothes for Jaylen from my client, but now we're coming down to the last of it. I think we'll do our first shopping spree for Jaylen this weekend- woo hoo!

Here's a peek at my belly at 20 weeks- ultrasound tomorrow! It feels like I've exploded the past week or 2.

Apparently the baby is the size of a root beer bottle, is practicing swallowing, breathing, and becoming more proportional.

As one site said, "At 20 weeks pregnant, you may be feeling slightly less dainty and slightly more bulky." Definitely true. This week has been big changes with belly size and feeling Jr kicking around alot.

Carving Pumpkins

Our pumpkin carving night!

My spider web..

Jaylen loved his job scooping out the seeds..

Love these boys!

Preggo update- almost 20 weeks!

WOW! I'm almost to half way! Next week we find out what we're having... I'm in total suspense so I'm excited to know finally! 20 weeks down, 20 to go. I can do this..

Man, that first trimester was rough, but I am loving the second (as much as one can love pregnancy I guess!)! I can't believe how good I feel compared to a couple months ago. In fact, today I ran a half marathon and felt terrific! It was definitely hard, but felt healthy and happy the whole way.

Wednesday night I felt the baby for the first time on the outside. I've been feeling flutters alot, but haven't felt anything strong enough to feel from the outside. I felt "it" kicking around like crazy inside, and after putting my hand on the bottom of my belly could feel it on my hand. It's exciting, yet somewhat not- cause I know many painful kicks, crazy sleep, and being alot more uncomfortable is on the horizon once I can feel all that's going on in there.

We're excited- its all becoming a little more real!

Silly boy

Couple of quick silly stories from Jaylen:

*On the way out the door Jaylen randomly says, "Lets go to the Promised Land!!"
Totally random and so funny- I think he got it from Scripture Scouts... Aaron and I were cracking up

*Jaylen: "Ewwwwww, broccoli farts!" Enough said.

* After pooping on the potty he attempts to wipe his bum by unrolling the toilet paper, not tearing it off, wiping, then rolling it back on the roll. It's quite the surprise when going for the toilet paper after him- poop on the first 5 squares. Gross, huh. I'm just happy as can be he's attempting.

*Seeing him check out his bum in the mirror- checking out the trains and dinosaurs on his underwear.

*Me: "Jaylen, you hungry?"
Jaylen: "Um, not really. Mom, you don't need to worry about that. Ok?"

*We've been telling Jaylen that Mommy can't hold him all the time because my belly is too ouchy. He's such a mommy's boy, that this has been quite difficult for him.
Well, on the way in from the car I asked Jaylen if he'd carry his bag- He said, "No Mom. I don't think so, my belly button is too ouchy," as he lifted up his shirt to show me his belly button (where he thinks the baby is hiding).

McCall's Pumpkin Patch

WOW! Serious fun. I feel like all we do is play anymore- I love it. Here's our fun day at the McCall's pumpkin patch in Moriarty, New Mexico!

Walking into the farm..

Jaylen's first ride on the cow tractor train. Jaylen was sooo adorable on here..

Duck races..

Aaron won!

Feeding goats. Jaylen was giggling so much when the goats tongue was all over his hand!

They had this little town that we walked through- here's the Saloon..

"Cheers!!!"

In the 'grocery store.' Jaylen loved playing with all the produce!

Go carts!! Jaylen still refuses to use the pedals on any type of bike..

Jaylen LOVED this "mine slide." He would run all the way to the top by himself and slide down so proudly.

Top of the hay bale pyramid..

Jaylen didn't know how to take the bouncy floor- but warmed up to it and loved being in the bouncy cow they had...

Another ride on the cow tractor train.

On the tractor "train" to the pumpkin patch!

Pulling up to the pumpkin patch! All our first times at a big pumpkin patch.. we loved it!!

Searching for our family pumpkins..

Jaylen picked out baby's pumpkin..

Here's our pumpkins- Aaron's is the biggest, the little smaller one is mine, the littler one is Jaylen's, and the tiny one for baby!

Jaylen loved playing in this pit of corn- such a good idea. I loved the no mess or dirty sand issue!

We couldn't leave without another ride on the cow tractor train. Jaylen was sooo adorable on here. How cute it was to see our little blonde boy riding around in his little cow! So cute!

We also found our way through the fun 16 acre corn maze.

What a beautiful, fun day! New Mexico is so awesome for fall time activities! How fun it is to be a parent- to see the world again through a new pair of eyes.

Boys at Play

I came home from volleyball practice to a dark house, and this is what I found when I turned on the lights...

Cookies, a tent, books and 2 giggly boys...

This is what it sounded like:

Flowers for Mommy

When I picked Jaylen up from childcare, he had these in his hands waiting to proudly give them to me...

What melts a mom's heart like homemade crafts from an adorable 2 year old?!

Okay, maybe this:
