Collins Christmas Party

We are really lucky to have such good friends here in Albuquerque. Tonight we attended the Collin's annual Christmas Party at Cooperage and had a ton of fun. We really enjoy being with Steve and Ellie's family and friends. They are the nicest people and so fun to be around. We're always laughing and having a good time. Dinner was fantastic and afterwords we were surprised with some really nice gifts from them. Jaylen got this motorized car, which we had really wanted to get him but couldn't quite budget in, so it was PERFECT! He's a little freaked out by it right now, it's a little noisy at first, but he's also obsessed with it. So before long it might take place of the vacuum. It was a blast. We really appreciate them thinking about us and having us come to their company party.

Before the party, Aaron and Jaylen were "peeping" on me outside the shower. It was really cute. Jaylen was giggling and giggling when he looked over. I love these boys...

I haven't actually done my hair in forever. On this rare occasion, a couple pictures were taken...

Honeys!

Jaylen loves these two girls, in particular Julie, who is the older one on the right. We love this family. We met the Hornbargers through church, where Jaylen sees Tess and Julie in nursery, and Evelyn and I started going to stake sports night and started doing a babysitting swap. Its been awesome. The first night we picked up Jaylen from their house, he randomly says on the way out, "Bye, bye honeys!" We died laughing. Where he gets these things from, I don't know, but he's pretty dang hilarious. He's constantly saying their names around home and gets extremely excited when he sees them. We really enjoy hanging out with them.

Red Turkey Enchiladas

YUM! Steve and Ellie had us down for dinner and a Christmas parade in Los Lunas last Saturday, and man did she cook up some mean red turkey enchiladas. I tried the recipe out this week with some of the left over turkey we had frozen from Thanksgiving and it was terrific. Thought I'd share a little New Mexico with you!

Red Turkey Enchiladas

3 Tbsp oil- heat till hot in pan
Add 3 Tbsp flour, mix up real good with oil
Add 3 Tbsp red chili powder- mix up well
Add 2 c. chicken broth (or water- but not as flavorful!)
Add garlic salt/powder and ground pepper to taste.

In frying pan, heat up oil till hot. Put corn tortillas in and warm up on each side.

Put cheese, beans and turkey (or any meat really) in tortillas and put in dish. (Note- don't put sauce in tortillas, it makes them soggy). Pour sauce on the top of filled tortillas. Add cheese on the top. Bake uncovered at 350 until warm throughout. Homemade red sauce is soooooooooooo much better than the canned stuff. We loved it!

Musical Instruments!

Jaylen loved Grammy (My mom)'s Christmas present this year. She wrapped up a bunch of different musical instruments and helped Jaylen open them all. He loved it! He loves anything that makes noise and he quite into music. His favorite was the harmonica. He was hilarious playing that thing. Maybe a blue grass country singer?

Aaron and I competed in how many instruments we could play at one time- We used our toes, feet, hands, mouths, arms- anything we could try to use. It was pretty entertaining. We had some good laughs.

Toddler bed craziness...

Well, its been over a week since we've converted Jaylen's crib to a big boy bed. Its been pretty hair pulling at times, yet nice at other times. Its been getting better each night, with a few setbacks, but I think he's getting used to his new bed. The first few nights he would get out over and over again with a little smirk on his face and we were constantly putting him back into bed. Then, he would wake up in the middle of the night because he fell out of bed. We finally put a couple big pillows on the floor below, and when we've gone to check on him, he's fallen out and asleep on the pillows at times. Aaron went to check on him and didn't see him anywhere. He finally found him asleep underneath his bed. We're constantly laughing at how and where he's sleeping in his room.
A client gave me a rail to put on the bed, and I put it on, but we're too nervous about it. I think Aaron saw something where a kid fell between the rail and his bed and suffocated, so I think we're going to go without it. Its too wobbly for us. Its sad to see him fall out of his bed, but at least the pillows are soft and he won't suffocate on them.

The best part about the big boy bed is that he gets up in the morning and crawls into bed and snuggles with us for a while in the mornings. I think when its been colder at night he wakes up more often and tries to crawl in with us, but its really cute to have our snuggle time in the morning without having to wake up to him yelling, "MOMMMMYYY!!" and having to crawl out to get him.

Here's how I found him this morning..

The second night we went to check on him and we couldn't open the door because...

Jaylen was dead asleep in front of the door. We had to push his feet over and squeeze through the door. We couldn't stop laughing and we (of course!) took some pictures. He does this quite often. He knows he needs to stay in his room, but falls asleep peeking out the bottom of the door I think. Pretty pathetic, yet pretty hilarious too!

Jaylen loved being all snuggled in our blankets after a shower with Aaron.

He comes into our room first thing in the morning for the most part, but yesterday morning Jaylen decided to throw my tennis shoes into bed before he got in to snuggle. Waking up to a shoe in my face wasn't so nice, but Jaylen is so fun to see all smiley and snugly first thing in the morning!

Just a random thing Jaylen does that I wanted to remember was whenever he gets sleepy or snugly he loves to tuck his hands in close. I don't know how to explain this one very well, but its so adorable and we really love it. He loves to have his hands nice and warm or something. You can see with the pictures above how he sleeps with his hands under him- he loves to have his hands tucked right in close when we hold him and when he's going to sleep.

The other day on our way somewhere, Jaylen says in his car seat, "Snuggle?!?" It was the most heart melting thing ever. Aaron leaned back in his seat and snuggled Jaylen the best he could in the car. We love that he's so cuddly! He's perfect for our family!

Another random story I wanted to write down: Jaylen and I were playing in his room, and I was pointing to different facial features and he was repeating them (eyes, ears, mouth, cheeks). We moved out to the front room to play Ring around the Rosies right after and after the part "we all fall down!!" I fell down and put my feet above my head. Jaylen comes over and pats my bottom and says, "Cheeks! Cheeks?" Well, yes son, those are cheeks too, but not the ones we were talking about...

VACCUUM! WANNA USE IT?!?

My mom definitely won Jaylen's heart over with this little Dirt Devil vacuum she got him while she was here. It makes noise just like a vacuum and actually picks little things up. Jaylen is NONSTOP with it! Wow, he is obsessed. The whole time they were here, Jaylen keep saying to everyone, "Want to use it?!" over and over referring to the vaccuum. He's our little janitor in training I guess!

Tram!

It was a beautiful trip up the world's longest tram! Here's some pictures from up on top! A chilly 26 degrees and snow!

AWESOME!

Anyone who knows me well, knows I love any kind of puss, zits, or anything of the like. I know, it's gross, but I'm completely fascinated with it and always have been. Jessica brought some of her nose, pore strips with her so we all gave them a try. We used to do this back when we were at home still in high school and it was always a hoot.

I'll leave whose nose this is anonymous, and I'm sorry if you don't enjoy this picture as much as I do, but CHECK OUT THAT GUNK IN THOSE PORES! Wow, pretty gruesomely awesome if you ask me.

Zoo with Mom, Jess and Kruse!

We had a fun time at the Albuquerque Zoo on Black Friday. Here's some pictures from our day.

Mom was funny in this chair!

Jaylen had a hard time sharing the lizard....

Cute cousins

Playing in the playground...

Next to the cougar!

We finished off our day with a great time at an authentic New Mexican restaurant, Sadies. It's DELICIOUS!!!!

Monkey Business

These two cute cousins loved crawling over over the place with each other and bouncing in the crib. Here's some pics of their fun!

Any table or chair left out, was quickly climbed up on.

Its fun to see Jaylen be able to interact more and more with his cousins and those around him!

Thanksgiving Dinner

We have so much to be Thankful for this year.

1. Each other. Aaron is the best husband/father I could have asked for. He's so sweet with Jaylen and he is so caring and sweet to me. He makes life so much fun. Jaylen definitely has spiced up our lives and I never thought I could love someone as much as I love him and Aaron.

2. Awesome family. I'm really grateful for my family. Its so nice to feel loved and looked after. Thanks so much for all the love and help you all send our way!

3. Awesome friends. One of the reasons I love my job is because I meet and make so many awesome friends and all different kinds of people. This year I came home to find a package with a turkey and ham sitting on my doorstep not long after my horrible day of our car getting broken into. Our time here in Albuquerque has been so much less lonely and more fun thanks to our awesome friends, who I consider family away from home.

4. Food. How could I not be so thankful for food? Its basically one of the one things I think about all the time.

5. I'm grateful for the Savior and the knowledge/peace/happiness the gospel brings to our lives.

There are so many other things I'm so grateful for; we feel so so blessed.

What a fun Thanksgiving. My mom flew out on Tuesday morning, Jessica and Kruse ended up coming after all on Wednesday evening. One of my good friends from work, Jessie, came to enjoy Thanksgiving with us too. This was my first time "hosting" it at my house and planning the meal, and I really enjoyed it. We started cooking Wednesday afternoon- getting the potatoes, green bean casserole, pie, yams, and other foods ready. Thursday we went through a workout at the gym and played in the pool. We finished cooking and warming up our food and had a great meal followed up with some fun games. More postings to come on the rest of the weekend with Jess, Mom and little Kruse in town!

Bath time with cousin Kruse!

Bath time was awfully fun with both these cuties in the tub. Check out this mischievous face of Jaylen's.....

His snarly face has evolved so much since he was a baby. In fact, I think I'll do a posting of that later.

It was fun to see them splash around and play!

Unfortunately for Kruse, this bath time ended abruptly when Jaylen got upset about Kruse using the hoop, and he decided to bite down on his arm. Jaylen got a time out and a little talk on not biting our friends/family which Jaylen laughed through. I feel like George's dad in Seinfeld sometimes and want to scream, "SERENITY NOW!!!!"

OH BOY.

With every stage there is something new and challenging with raising Jaylen (and any child I suppose). This new stage is absolutely frightening to me. Tuesday morning I woke up to 2 large, beady eyes and deep breathing right in my ear on the side of my bed. After I about leaped out of bed, I realized Jaylen crawled out of his crib and was beaming from ear to ear with sheer delight of his new found talent. Its been really stressful since he's found this new talent, he gets out of his crib about 20 times before he finally will fall asleep in his crib for bedtime and nap time. You can just see the excitement in his eyes when he looks around the corner into our room after sneaking out of his bed. Its hard to be too upset with him (until the 20th time!).

I think he figured this out because while my mom and sister were here over Thanksgiving, we put the air mattress right next to the crib. I found Jaylen grabbing unto the side rail and flipping himself into the crib from the mattress (pretty amazing to see him do- maybe a gymnastic in the making?!).

It takes us over an hour after constantly telling him it's night, night and putting him back into his crib. Its been really frustrating and tiring, but hopefully this will just be a stage (as it always is). It is really fun though to have him proudly climb into bed with us in the morning and snuggle without having to wake up to him yelling, "MOMMMMMMYYY!!!" over and over. Its just hard to not have that guaranteed time where I know he is safe and tucked into his crib, knowing he won't crawl out and pull all his drawers out and not go to sleep!

I finally decided to take off the front of the crib and convert it into the toddler bed. I just did it this afternoon, so we'll see how tonight goes. If this is an absolute disaster, we'll probably look into the crib tent thing.

Here we go!

Update!

A few days ago we gave Jaylen a piece of candy. Aaron asked Jaylen, "What do you say?" Jaylen just stared at him. He asked again, "What do you say Jaylen?" Jaylen enthusiastically responded, "TRICK OR TREAT!" We both busted up laughing. Well, I guess he's right, we did teach him that.

Jaylen is hilarious about his new play friend, Julie. Julie has a little sister Tess that is his age and Julie is 3. (The same "honeys" from a previous post). Jaylen will say Julie's name throughout the day and is always super excited to see her. Its pretty cute.

Jaylen's new code phrase for telling us he really, really wants to use the vacuum is "You want to use it?" He says it over and over again with the cutest eyes to get me to bring out the vacuum.

What a crazy week. Last Tuesday morning I jumped in our car to head to train, and I realized that our car had been broken into. Our glove box was crow-bared open, papers everywhere, all the consoles were open and stuff was everywhere. My heart sank as soon as a realized what had happened. I was running late, and I knew that nothing of real value was in the car, so I figured I'd hurry to work and figure out what was taken later. I went to put my key in the car and there was no ignition. Just a bunch of wire, and metal deep down in the hole. What an awful, awful feeling. So I made an auto burglary/vandalism report with the police. They took my owner's manual, my scriptures (D&C) on CD and my sunglasses. I hope they get good use out of my scripture CDs, jerks. Our car is at the body shop now. They said whoever broke into it was very, very close to getting away with my car- the battery was dead because they got it running but couldn't turn the engine over. Who does this type of thing to someone else? We got the estimate to fix it yesterday- $1500, they have to put in a whole new dashboard. Thank goodness for insurance (although we still lose out a $500 deductible dang it) and hopefully this idiot will learn his lesson- and SOON. So frustrating!

Nap time silliness

This boy can make me go absolutely nuts one minute, then totally melt my heart the next. Children are crazy like that. Here is one of the best times I look forward to. His nap time and bedtime have turned into the best times I enjoy lately. He repeats "Night, Night" and "Love you" over and over till he falls asleep in his crib. Its so so sweet. We love that he's picked up how to say, "love you" this past week too. And the fact that its followed by peace and quiet is great too! :)

MESS

Jaylen, Jaylen, Jaylen. This boy is going to turn me into a saint with all the patience I'm learning with him. I was making dinner, didn't hear him after seeing him 5-10 minutes ago, went to look for him, only to find toilet paper all over the place, his clothes off, in the bathtub, toilet opened, towel on the floor. This is the response he gave to why this happened. He knows how to say something is a "No, no, no" but getting him to not do it again is a whole different struggle.

Halloween night

To finish off our fun Halloween, we took Jaylen trick-or-treating in a nearby neighborhood and at a couple clients' houses. Jaylen quickly got the "Trick-or-Treat" idea down as soon as he realized he got candy when he said it. Even now, when he's looking for candy he'll come up to me and say, "trick-or-treat!" expecting candy to arrive out of thin air. Its pretty funny. We then went down to our awesome friends, the Collins house, to do some fun trick-or-treating and eat. What could be better?!

Emily, Jaylen, Zoe, Sarah and Ellie

Jaylen knocking on doors (He loved doing this!)

We have SO much candy its ridiculous!!!

Football player

Okay, okay. Maybe I had a little TOO much fun this Halloween, but Jaylen is too fun to dress up. He went to childcare in the morning as a football player.

He kept laughing at himself in the mirror, pointing to his shirt saying, "Football! Football!" It was adorable.

Zoo Boo

Still trying to figure out if this was a good or bad experience. The zoo was insanely packed and lines were everywhere. So it took awhile to get anywhere, but at the time, there were tons of cute, clever costumes. I think we'll pass it off as a success!

This picture should be last, oh well, but this is our sleepy chicken after the zoo.

Twins, gosh they look so similar!

Jaylen loved running around in this little wooded area/barn. Everyone was laughing as they walked by- he looked perfectly suited for the backdrop in his chicken costume.

Jaylen loves running around, which is exactly what he did the whole time.

We ran into this little boy in the park, and they were laughing at each other. I love how kids make friends and communicate at this age.

Watching the Polar Bears.

A couple little clips of Jaylen running around at the zoo.
